As any homeowner will tell you, the work never ends. There’s always something that needs repairing, updating or ripping out and replacing. And when there’s absolutely nothing to do, there’s always the planning for the next update or mini remodeling project. The work for homeowner is never really over.
Some mini remodeling projects are smaller single items that can be completed in a two-day period or extended weekend with a Friday or Monday holiday day from work which helps to get everything finished before anyone else at home starts to complain. Here are a few suggestions for smaller updates and improvements that can be made to a home within just a few days.
Makeover the Entryway
The front door doesn’t get much thought, but it probably is due for some work. Maybe sanding it down, applying a new protective coat and then painting it a fresh color would look wonderful? Any issues with chipped woodwork, a cracked window glass pane and other minor niggles can be resolved fairly quickly too. Replacing the door knocker with something more decorative could strike a different tone?
Are the house numbers clear and easy to read or has the coating on them worn off making them look shabby? Should they be replaced? What about the outdoor lighting at night? Is the front porch area light enough and do any sensors that automatically turn on the lights actually function correctly or is the sensor blocked up?
Create a Cozy Area as a Reading Nook
For any homeowners who enjoy reading, then create a pleasing reading nook where it’s comfortable to hide away and read. You’ll need to have a comfortable armchair or other seat. The level of illumination should be sufficient to read without eye strain and if possible, make the lighting adjustable via a smart light bulbs and mobile app control so you don’t have to get up to adjust it.
Add a side table to place a book, e-reader or tablet on when you wish to take a rest from holding it up and just nap for a while. The reading nook doesn’t have to be large, it should be its own private space wherever possible to get away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the home.
Paint the Exterior Walls a New Color
After a few years, the paint on the exterior walls starts to show its age. It is sometimes possible to get a cleaner to remove the unsightly marks created by bacteria on the paintwork, but it’s best to just clean it yourself and then repaint the home a different hue to create something completely new.
You’ll want to get some scaffolding up along the side of the property, so you can climb up safely. Once the scaffolding is secure, hooking yourself onto it using a safety line attached to a D-ring on your DBI SALA harness is the safest way to paint. This way, you can lean out to paint the side of the wall and not worry about falling off. Do check that the line will hold your weight securely before you hook yourself onto it though.
Remodeling projects are fun to do when you can complete them quickly. They only get less enjoyable when it messes up your home life for too long at a stretch. Most of the projects are also small enough that they’re not overly expensive to complete too.…
