How do You Select a Competent Termite Pest Control Service?

There are a number of ways you can control termites including proper home maintenance practices and eliminating moisture issues around your compound. But sometimes, termite infestation becomes extensive and hard to control. This is the time you need to call a pest control company and one that specializes in termites. Maybe you have been hiring a service before but you did not satisfy. You must be wondering how to improve your termite pest control. What you need to know is this: like any other service out there, choose a company that guarantees quality and value. The competence and cost of a service are critical determinants but do not limit your choice to cost only. Ensure that you pick a service that is competent.

a. Research

Getting local termite exterminators who are reliable is not that easy. Don’t be like most people who think that infestation problem can be eradicated immediately by simply calling a technician; you have to take your time to research a reasonably priced and credible pest control company. Get several free estimates from various companies and make comparisons.

b. Ask the right questions

You want to know the level of experience of the termite exterminators and whether they are state-licensed. Find out if there is an organization that has filed claims against your prospective company. Some incompetent companies have been sued for misusing pesticides. Something else that you must insist on is a list of references. Call a number of previous customers of the company to find out if they were satisfied or dissatisfied. As far as the licenses are concerned, ask for a copy as evidence and the technicians should also provide their credentials. Don’t forget to inquire about the application rates and the methods used to control termites. You want your property to remain environmentally friendly and safe for people.

c. Companies you should avoid

Any company that offers to control termites in your property as a part of a package is not competent. If there is neither working telephone nor physical address of the company, pass it and find a better one. Do not bother hiring a company that claims to volunteer services to the elderly; always ask for identification and the credentials of the technicians. Note that termite pest control may take hundreds of gallons of pesticides, so if the company quotes a price based on the number of gallons, forget about it because you are about to be exploited. Do not accept any service that claims to use a secret technique of controlling termites. Make sure that the pesticides used are legally recognized by the state by checking the labels. Pesticide labels without active ingredients are illegal. The last but not least consideration: do not hire a service just because you have been pressured to sign a contract because your property is in danger.

A professional termite control company offers guarantees. Take time to understand terms and conditions of such guarantees. If it has a good reputation, then you know you have found the right service.…

Protecting Against Water Damage

Kitchens are prone to water damage if the correct preventative measures are not taken during the installation process.

Water

As any doctor will tell you, prevention is better than cure. A melamine board that has been exposed to water for a period on an open edge will show physical signs of damage. Extended periods of exposure to water will compromise the structural integrity of the cabinet and it will start to sag and fall apart. All this is easily avoidable, and it is quite possible to have melamine cupboards still looking great years after installation, even in high moisture areas.

When installing cupboards it is best to have them on adjustable legs instead of having them on particleboard constructed bases. This keeps moisture from rising into the structure and ruining your cupboards. Simply install melamine kick plates to hide these adjustable legs. These might show signs of damage over time, but they are easily fixed by unclipping them from the adjustable legs and replacing them with new ones.

When you construct your cupboard, don’t try to cut costs by not edging some panels. This might seem like an innocent cost saving. It is a norm in the installation business to not edge the sides that won’t be visible. But the fact is, edging also protects against moisture penetration. Rather edge the whole lot and have that extra barrier to rely on.

Always apply silicone along all of the edges of your newly installed cupboards, all along the kick plates, and where the cupboard and wall meet. Should you ever have a spill, water will not be able to top penetrate along the edges. The most important part of this step is to silicone the area where the countertop and wall meet. Be sure to cover all the most common entry points; along basins, pipes or taps leading through the cupboard. Always use quality silicone that is mold and mildew resistant, specially formulated for kitchens and bathrooms.

Finally, never allow water to spill on your cupboards unnecessarily. If it does, be sure to dry it properly.…
